A Strategic Pivot: The 7-Day React Native Challenge

A Strategic Pivot: The 7-Day React Native Challenge

If you’ve been following my expedition, you know the plan was to continue the origin story of my PMS app, starting with the story of my messy spreadsheets and checklists. But as any senior engineer knows, the ability to respond to a high-priority ticket is as crucial as long-term planning. Today, I’m assigning myself one of those tickets.

For the next seven days, I am pausing the PMS app series to take on a new, public challenge: I’m going to build a functional Crypto Price Tracker app in React Native from scratch.

Why the Sudden Pivot?

This isn’t a distraction; it’s a strategic sprint. An unexpected and compelling professional opportunity has emerged that requires me to rapidly refresh and demonstrate my skills in the modern React Native ecosystem—a part of my toolkit I haven’t used seriously in a few years.

My core philosophy is to face challenges head-on and turn them into visible opportunities for growth. Instead of practicing in private, I’m making this a transparent, real-time case study on execution under pressure.

The Challenge & The Standards

The goal is a clean, functional crypto tracker app built with TypeScript and modern React Native. But more importantly, I’ll be holding myself to three professional standards:

  1. Performance: A buttery-smooth UI that can handle real-time data streams.
  2. Architecture: Clean, scalable code and modern state management.
  3. UX: A minimalist, professional, and intuitive user experience.

I will be publishing a new, detailed blog post every single day for the next seven days, documenting the process, the architectural decisions, the code, the struggles, and the breakthroughs.

The PMS journey is absolutely not over—it’s just on a short, scheduled pause. Think of this as a special, high-intensity “sprint” within our larger season. We will return to our regularly scheduled programming right after this.

The sprint starts now. Let’s see what’s possible in one week of focused effort.

The sprint has begun. Follow along with the first entry, where the ‘simple’ task of setting up the project turned into an unexpected challenge.
